Der Spiegel:
"Obama is pleased, but McCain certainly is not. In an interview, Iraqi Prime Minister al-Maliki expressed support for Obama's troop withdrawal plans. Despite a half-hearted retraction, the comments have stirred up the US presidential campaign. Spiegel stands by its version of the conversation."
Update: Maliki called his remarks in Der Spiegel "misinterpreted and mistranslated," following a call to his office from the Bush White House before changing his story again.
Update update: a tape of the interview confirms Maliki's support for Obama's plans, but Maliki's comments, say conservatives, though supportive of the Democratic presidential candidate, "should not be understood as support to any presidential candidate." Dur.
Bonus: "a prominent Republican strategist who occasionally provides advice to the McCain campaign said candidly, 'We’re fucked.'”
