"A recruitment poster for the right-wing"

Instead of satire, a political gift to republicans. Don Hazen at AlterNet asks

"Why are the New Yorker, Salon and other liberal media doing the right's dirty work?"

Really. Some of the headlines seen at supposedly "liberal" sites this morning:
Rush Limbaugh was right
Earl Ofari Hutchinson: the New Yorker got it right
Who cares if McCain can't use the Web?
My wife left me because the dolphins at Sea World gave me an erection

Ahem. The USA Toady:

Reactions to the [Obama] cartoon ranged from sadness to rage to scorn. The consensus from analysts was "what were they thinking?"
"It's the mass media at its worst. It perpetuates false information, and it's highly inflammatory," says Darrell West, an elections and public opinion expert at the Brookings Institution. "It gives credibility to what's been circulating for months, and that's what makes it dangerous."

Satire is supposed to exaggerate reality, not reflect it, author Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote. "Sadly, that picture exaggerates nothing — that's exactly what a slice of Americans believe about Barack Obama. Expect that image to be on T-shirts within two weeks," he wrote.

Two? I bet they're already selling. John at AmericaBlog:

"I'm sure the New Yorker thinks they're actually poking holes in the myth by making light of the stereotypes. Yeah, and tell us how this pokes fun at the stereotype? It reinforces it. And yet again, you'd never see them try anything like this with John McCain. God forbid you even ask a question about John McCain's experience, the media will destroy you. But paint Obama and his wife as America-hating flag-burning violent terrorists, and it's funny."

"Sattahr...wuzzat?"

What is it with Hutchinson anyway? Did he grow up in a neighborhood full of crackas or what? Been hanging out with too many white people, that's for sure.
