You know who else was 'folksy'?

I always thought of W as 'faux-folksy' -- that it was a transparent political ploy of a silver-spoon/neer-do-well rich-man's-son to try to appeal to the masses. He always seems so halting and uncomfortable with it -- probably because that's not really the way he is! Palin pulls it off a little 'better' because it's probably a lot closer to the way that she actually is.

Ultimately it gets down to whether or not 'folksy' is a good, necessary, or irrelevant qualification for POTUS (or VPOTUS). It seems like it's basically irrelevant as a P/VPOTUS qualification -- essentially a personality STYLE which is unimportant when the BIG decisions have to be made. If 'folksy' is morphed/defined into 'stupid/gut-level reactionary responses', then it obviously becomes a negative trait, at least in the opinion of us non-Neo-cons and the rest of the sane world.

A privileged son of a rich guy with an oceanfront estate. Karl had him buy some benighted old pig farm in South Hellhole, Texas, in order to look like a good ol' boy.
