Smart kids turn into glassy-eyed drooling dittomonkeys whenever Caribou Barbie’s name is mentioned. Won’t somebody think of the children?
"I teach in a well-off suburban public high school in the midwest," a teacher writes to Andrew Sullivan's blog. "My students excel; they're hardworking and ambitious. My class is a demanding elective. The subject matter includes lots of critical thinking. Except when it comes to Sarah Palin."C’mon, you Midwest Demoncrats! Can’t you just push these little zomboids into ice-fishing holes or something, do us all a favor? : )

Interesting. It strangely reminds me of a program I saw on Sundance Channel last night about Nigeria (it was mainly on local filmaking there), where they discussed how the country really went down the tubes economically, and - - tellingly - - in one area where there had been 25 factories employing thousands, all of the factories had closed and 15 have now become huckster-type fundamentalist/revivialist churches. Some eloquent Nigerians were describing how these churches were just "theraputic", NOT moral or religious centers. Made me wonder about our US Repukes that idolize Palin & friends - - is it a fear that the end of the US empire is at hand and they're just looking for a psuedo-religious/charismatic figure to lead them?? Maybe it's reaching a bit, but hell, I can't come up with any RATIONAL reason why Repukes (who historically have prided themselves [by and large unjustly so] as being 'hard-nosed realists') would be SO enamored of a dolt like Palin, who would have trouble holding down a waitress job (who can remember all that boring menu stuff!?)...
They are sheep. They followed George Bush the same way, blindly. That's because right-wingers like to follow the leader. They're easily led, easily confused and easily made afraid and fearful of the unknown and constantly look for leaders to follow and guide them, because the Republican base at its core is anti-intellectual and unable to think for themselves, yet they paradoxically 'pride' themselves in having common sense which they utterly lack. Their leaders encourage and cultivate these traits along with a strong sense of nationalism. This is the basis of authoritarianism and the Nazis in 1930's Germany are their role-models. Many of Karl Rove's quotes mimic Mussolini and Hitler's.
Repugs are also basically dishonest people. The pseudo-intellectuals who make up the rest of the Repug Party practice and encourage willful ignorance and intellectually dishonesty in their flock - its what's needed in order to be a Republican anymore. Add to that the traits of being selfish, greedy, mean, self-serving and a coward and you have the basis of conservatism today. Conservatism is a mental illness and the Republican Party should be buried and the ground sowed with salt.
