Another letter in Newsday: "While preparing and rehearsing their terrorist attacks on America, Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida leaders must have been having belly laughs in the late 1990s watching the Republicans distract and tie up our government in an impeachment effort involving a sex scandal!"

This is Statesmanship?

[W]ith the Bush administration deeply divided over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, America -- regarded by all sides as holding the key to the problem -- has not yet come up with a coherent policy for the region. To the dismay of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the State Department has advanced a Camp David-like plan that would hand over almost all of the occupied territories to the Palestinians, but President Bush has not accepted it and has not shown any signs of committing himself to bold initiatives of any kind.
