I'm awake, I'm awake. Sorta. Working on my first cuppa coffee, watching the weather channel. The field mice have started to move inside for the winter and the cats were making a racket last night chasing them around the house. Buggers.

shoot 'em - it's the amerikan way
You should be encouraging those kittehs since all vermin are registered GOP members. Especially the cockroaches.
heh. cockroaches, yes, but not the poor meeces! I even have one in my car. I found its poop in a cup-holder.
Don't-chya love it when the mice get in the walls or ceiling and just OCCASIONALLY scuttle about? It'll be nice and quiet on a cold winter night and then...ominously... 'scratch-scratch'.... 'scratch-scratch-scratch'.... ' scuttle-scuttle-scratch-scratch'...etc/etc. I heard our first one the other night, but after I banged a broom-handle near the source of the sound, he stopped and I haven't heard him again, though I expect I will. But what do you do about them when they're high up in the walls or ceiling? You don't want to go around drilling holes and sticking poison in there cause then you have to fix the holes, which is arguably a bigger pain than listening to a mouse once in awhile. Plus I don't exactly like the idea of polluting the environment (especially the one surrounding me!) with poisons.
If you've ever opened up a wall during a remodeling project and saw where they had chewed through the insulation on the wiring you may find that scuttling a bit worrisome. I am a cabinet maker and remodeler and see this all too often. Just like Goopers, they are trying to burn down the house, even the one they live in.
ack!
Captain BG - - is that the newer plastic type of insulation you're referring to?
Yes, new and older stuff from the 70's.
OK, thanks for the info Captain. Gives me another thing to worry about - - - but at least it takes one's mind off the Repukes and Obama's daily capitulation, in a very immediate & arresting way...
Big em, they only chew it when they are enlarging the hole in the stud drilled to run the wiring in the walls. I have seen a pile of mice bodies on the other side of a wall stud where they got electrocuted passing through the hole.
Yeah, Captain, the more I think about it the more I recall staying at a friend's cabin in northern WI that had loads of mice (and bats). Although it was built in the 1940's, it has electrical wiring but (to my knowledge) hasn't ever had an electrical fire, so it can't be too common, even if the critters do chew on the wires once in awhile. And his cabin was relatively 'civilized', unlike a lot of the deer-hunting shanties/cabins I hear about, which are undoubtedly infested with mice but I don't hear about them burning down with any regularity.
Heya i am for the first time here. I came across this board and I find It really useful & it helped me out a
lot. I hope to give something back and help others like you helped me.
