Senile, racist crackpot tries ratcheting up the fearmongering
No, the other one.
Republican Senator warns against mutant Islamofascist vampires driving taxis: drooling psychopath Conrad Burns, whose recent comments to firefighters and small Guatemalans have stirred controversy, says the United States is up against a "faceless enemy" of terrorists who "drive taxi cabs in the daytime and kill at night.' "
Bonus stupid points: Pickles Stepford was with him at the time.

Frist expected to get medical board fine, fire extinguisher for pants
I guess just looking at a video just isn't enough. Senate Majority Leader/douchebag Bill "values" Frist is facing fines and make-overs for not completing his medical board requirements.
In a license renewal form filed with the board earlier this year, Frist certified he had met the state's continuing education requirement - 40 hours over the previous two years. In other words, he lied. That is so fucking magical! What a hypocrite! LOL
In response to several inquiries from the Associated Press, however, the Tennessee Republican acknowledged Tuesday that he had not done all the work.

There he goes again
Bush is still at it: from Brian Williams' interview with Stupie McLiar Tuesday night:
BUSH: Well those are two different questions, did we fight the wrong war, and absolutely — I have no doubt — the war came to our shores, remember that. We had a foreign policy that basically said, let’s hope calm works. And we were attacked.
WILLIAMS: But those weren't Iraqis.
BUSH: They weren’t, no, I agree, they weren't Iraqis, nor did I ever say Iraq ordered that attack, but they're a part of, Iraq is part of the struggle against the terrorists. Now in terms of image, of course I worry about American image. We are great at TV, and yet we are getting crushed on the PR front. I personally do not believe that Saddam Hussein picked up the phone and said, “al-Qaida, attack America.”
But the war came to our shores, remember. 9/11. So we attacked. Iraq. 9/11. You hate America, donchoo, you fascist-lovin' terrist-appeasin' defeatist?
Blithering moron.

Catapulting the propaganda
"If you don't support us, you support the terrorists": Bush team to cast foes {Ahem, WaComPo, maybe you mean 'critics'? - Ed.} as 'defeatists.'
[Stinky McSquirtypants] and his surrogates are launching a new campaign intended to rebuild support for the war in Iraq by accusing the opposition of aiming to appease terrorists and cut off funding for troops on the battlefield, charges that many Democrats say distort their stated positions.Yeah They've got nothing - so they're making shit up.
Pressed to support these allegations, the White House yesterday could cite no major Democrat who has proposed cutting off funds or suggested that withdrawing from Iraq would persuade terrorists to leave Americans alone. But White House and Republican officials said those are logical interpretations of the Democratic position favoring a timetable for withdrawing troops from Iraq.
Playing politics with terrorism: Fascism, terrism, 9/11, fear... Fascism, terrism, 9/11, fear... Fascism, terrism, 9/11, fear...
[Farty McGameboy] is kicking off another series of speeches to counter opposition to the war in Iraq, Americans' impatience with the rising US death toll and anxiety about possible terrorist attacks. {Who's anxious?? Nobody I know, and I work near NYC. - Ed.}Whatever the hell they are. And btw, are any Dems at all ever going to mention the "Bin Laden Determined to Strike Inside the US" PDB??
White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino said Bush would use the speeches to assess the war on terror, outline the capabilities of al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups and remind Americans of steps the administration has taken to protect the nation.
Bush's new PR offensive is a recycled old lie and thinly disguised McCarthyism. Bush will try to convince the American people that Iraq is a part of the war on terror and, opposing the war is un-American. Never mind that Bush's war on terror is not only phony, it makes real terrorism worse and endangers American lives. What will happen when we get a real terrorist threat? Merely asking makes you a "Nazi appeaser". Bush and Rumsfeld breathe new life in odious McCarthyism. This cynical exploitation of fear does not makes us safer. It endangers us all.

Remembrance of Bush's fiascoes
"As he travels the nation to commemorate Katrina and 9/11, the president is only highlighting the tragedy of his own incompetence."
Before then, the administration had shunted aside the terrorist issue as something tainted by association with Bill Clinton. Counterterrorism chief Richard Clarke was ignored and demoted, pushed off the National Security Council Principals Committee. Despite Clarke's urgent entreaties the Principals Committee discussed terrorism only once, deciding at Rumsfeld's behest not to fly Predator drones for surveillance over Osama bin Laden's camps in Afghanistan. Bush's final dismissal of the threat warning on Aug. 6 meant that the CIA and FBI and other agencies were under no pressure from above to coordinate or even to be on the alert for terrorist plots.
In the aftermath of the derelict approach before 9/11, incompetent bungling has been compounded.
- Sidney Blumenthal.

Senile, fearmongering demagogue gets pantsed
Keith Olbermann kicks ass -
- Crooks and Liars has the complete transcript and the video.Mr. Rumsfeld’s remarkable comments to the Veterans of Foreign Wars yesterday demand the deep analysis - and the sober contemplation - of every American. For they do not merely serve to impugn the morality or intelligence - indeed, the loyalty - of the majority of Americans who oppose the transient occupants of the highest offices in the land. Worse, still, they credit those same transient occupants - our employees - with a total omniscience; a total omniscience which neither common sense, nor this administration’s track record at home or abroad, suggests they deserve.
Dissent and disagreement with government is the life’s blood of human freedom; And not merely because it is the first roadblock against the kind of tyranny the men Mr. Rumsfeld likes to think of as "his" troops still fight, this very evening, in Iraq.
It is also essential. Because just every once in awhile it is right - and the power to which it speaks, is wrong....
This country faces a new type of fascism indeed.

Dems bash Rumsfeld's Nazi comments
"What the Secretary must be forgetting is what emboldens the enemy is sending our troop into the line of fire without the equipment they need to protect themselves and get the job done. What emboldens the enemy is sending them there without the military intelligence to get the job done." - Nancy Pelosi.
"After 21 months of trying to find something I can agree with Secretary Rumsfeld on, it is true: the American people are being lied to and I totally agree with Secretary Rumsfeld. What I disagree with is the fact that he's the one doing the lying." - Eric Massa, Navy veteran and New York Democratic House candidate.
"It's a political rant to cover up his incompetence." - Sen. Jack Reed, former Army officer and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
"Secretary Rumsfeld's reckless comments show why America is not as safe as it can or should be five years after 9/11. If there's one person who has failed to learn the lessons of history it's Donald Rumsfeld."- Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.
"He sounded like a batty old man. A more decent society would put him in one of those coats with no cuffs and take him off to one of those rooms with padding on the walls." - Paul Begala.

Yet another Republican investigated for yet another stupid, possibly criminal action
Inquiry finds massive corruption by Rove, Bush buddy. No, the other one. Again.
State Department investigators have concluded that Kenneth Tomlinson, the head of the federal agency that oversees government broadcasts to foreign countries, improperly hired a friend on the public payroll for nearly $250,000 over two and a half years, used his government office for personal business - including running a “horse racing operation,” repeatedly used government employees to do his personal errands and billed the government for more days of work than the rules permit. And in a move that will surprise nobody, Preznit Values Integritude "continues to support Tomlinson’s renomination to another term as chairman of the Broadcasting Board of Governors."

Blow it out your ass
Bush critics similar to Nazi appeasers? Fuck you.
Somebody needs to corner the defense chief and explain that it’s not that we don’t want to fight terrorism, it’s that we want to do it efficiently and effectively. Why is it necessary to scare the country, make false connections between an ill-conceived war and fighting terror, and demonize critics with outrageously careless historical references to Hitler and fascism?
Fascism is new buzzword among fascistic GOP fascists
"If Mr. Rumsfeld is so concerned with comparisons to World War II, he should explain why our troops have now been fighting in Iraq longer than it took our forces to defeat the Nazis in Europe." - House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.
"It definitively defines the enemy in a way that we can't because they're not in uniforms," said GOP pollster Ed Goeas.
"Typically, the Bush administration finds its vocabulary someplace in the middle ground of popular culture. It seems to me that they're trying to find something that resonates, without any effort to really define what they mean," said Wayne Fields, a specialist in presidential rhetoric at Washington University in St. Louis.
Pollster Andrew Kohut, director of the Pew Research Center, said the "fascist" label may evoke comparisons to World War II and remind Americans of the lack of personal freedoms in fundamentalist countries. "But this could only affect public opinion on the margins," he said.
"Having called these people `evildoers,' fascism is just a new wrinkle," he said.
Stephen J. Wayne, a professor of government at Georgetown University, suggested White House strategists "probably had a focus group and they found the word 'fascist.'
"Most people are against fascists of whatever form. By definition, fascists are bad. If you're going to demonize, you might as well use the toughest words you can," Wayne said.

Celebrating a heckuva job
End of summer got you down? Cheer up! It’s Bushtemberfest!
The observance will start with the anniversary of the flooding of New Orleans and climax with the anniversary of the destruction of the World Trade Center, during which time we will pray — loudly and publicly — that no other disasters befall us while we await the blessed day that King George and his menagerie of religious hucksters, corporate bandits and ideological grifters get their eviction notice...
- The Opinion Mill, which is asking for ideas on how to best observe the holiday, such as "I’ll be celebrating by leaving my kids in the bathtub alone with the water running. When they start crying I’ll yell that I’ll be right there - then I’ll show up a week later!"
I'm not going to read the warnings or directions on the flea bombs the bf brought over, that way I can be totally poleaxed when the house explodes in roiling, stinky flames.

Makin' progress
Security deteriorates in southern Iraq: "A surge in bloodshed left at least 50 people dead in a suicide car-bombing and clashes between Shiite militia and Iraqi security forces yesterday. In a brutal contradiction of claims that violence was decreasing, street fighting in the town of Diwaniya represented some of the bloodiest clashes yet among rival factions in Shiite southern Iraq."
About 100 Iraqi Shiite soldiers have refused to "stand up" -"marking the second time Iraqi soldiers have balked at following their assignment."
The US military announced that nine US soldiers were killed over the weekend in and around Baghdad, eight by roadside bombs and one by gunfire.
Afghanistan is "going swimmingly"
NOT.
"British forces suffered their 14th combat death in Afghanistan yesterday as commanders admitted that intense fighting against the Taliban meant they were using up missiles, rockets and spares at an alarming rate. Apache helicopters have been particularly hard hit with a senior Army source claiming that stocks of weapons and components meant to last until April next year could be used up well before Christmas."

Cyborg short-circuits, continuously plays broken record
Cheney can't scare me anymore, the miserable senile old coot
Americans aren't falling for this ''only more war can protect you from the evil terrorists'' routine as easily as they once did, judging from Bush's abysmal popularity poll figures hovering in the one-in-three range.- Robert Steinback, Miami Herald contributor.
It has taken three-and-a-half years, the deaths of 2,600 US military personnel and the wounding of 19,000 others, the waste of $400 billion perfectly good dollars, escalating worldwide terrorism and a virtual civil war in Iraq, but polls suggest even patriotic self-delusion eventually wears thin without evidence and results.

Committee call shenanigans on fake Democrat marching with local Dems in town's Labor Day Parade.
"I told him through his office, that as a duly elected Democratic official, he's putting me in an uncomfortable, almost embarrassing position. We have a duly elected candidate, who was endorsed by a historic turnout of state Democrats in the recent primary. I don't have to march with [that Bush -kissing toady Lieberman], the DTC doesn't have to march with him, so why would he want to make it look like he's in good graces with the Democratic Party? He is not in good graces with state Democrats.- Selectman Herb Rosenthal of Newtown, Conn.
"He was privately and publicly asked not to run by many state Democrats, and decided to run anyway even after he lost the primary. Philosophically, I have a problem with that.... And I'm not going to reward that behavior by marching beside him on Labor Day."

Rummy complains media manipulated by extremists. No, the other ones.
Donald Rumsfeld said Monday he is deeply troubled by the success of terrorist groups in "manipulating the media" to influence Westerners. "That's the thing that keeps me up at night," he said.Gosh. Poor little guy. And everything else is going so well.
In other deluded crackpot news, today Rummy Godwinned critics of the Bush misadministration's disastrous policies and accused them of "trying to appease a new type of fascism."
Rumsfeld portrayed administration's critics as suffering from "moral and intellectual confusion" about what threatens the nation's security and accused them of lacking the courage to fight back."Moral..".. While linking September 11th with Iraq again. Yes, with the anniversary of the terrorist attacks approaching, a coordinated White House strategery is underway to warn people how frightened they should be unless the republicans remain in charge. Bush to remember Katrina victims, then forget them for another year
Farty McStinkerson holds 'carefully orchestrated' photo-op. Haven't these people suffered enough?
“It’s amazing, isn’t?” he told a gathering under a sweltering sun. “It’s amazing what the world looked like then and what it looks like now.”
Mr. Bush delivered his remarks at an intersection in a working-class Biloxi neighborhood against a carefully orchestrated backdrop of neatly reconstructed homes. Just a few feet out of camera range stood gutted houses with wires dangling from interior ceilings. A tattered piece of crime scene tape hung from a tree in the field where Bush spoke. A toilet seat lay on its side in the grass.
Pressed for a time frame for the rebuilding, Bush said: "Well it's hard for me to say. I would say years, not months."
“It’s friends helpin' friends that turns out tuh make a 'normous difference,” he added, drinking lemonade from Trent Lott's completely rebuilt front porch.

National disaster.

The Cheney presidency
Yet the press buys the pretense of Bush being "the decider," and relentlessly covers Bush -- meeting with world leaders, cutting brush, holding press conferences, while Cheney works in secret, largely undisturbed. So let's take half the members of the overblown White House press corps, which has almost nothing to do anyway, and send them over to Cheney Boot Camp for Reporters. They might learn how to be journalists again, and we might learn who is running the government.

Fool me once...
With the sclm on its knees as usual, the Bush misadministration has begun to pump up the "Iran threat" -
The country is less than three months away from a crucial mid-term election, and with the GOP facing the distinct possibility of losing its majority in Congress, the administration is desperately trying to play the only card that has worked repeatedly with the voters -- fear of terrorism. It needs a new villain, and Iran's persistent thumbing of its nose at the West over its nuclear program provides the perfect opening to elevate one.Haven't they learned anything????
Fear-mongering at election time is one thing. Inventing a case for war where none exists is something else entirely.

I saw this at Crooks and Liars and nearly wet my pants: powerlameblog's Assrocket gives a sloppy, goopy, enthusiastic handjob to Stupie McStinkypants -
"I had the opportunity this afternoon to be part of a relatively small group who heard President Bush talk, extemporaneously, for around forty minutes {Did that include fart jokes? - Ed.}. The conventional wisdom is that Bush is not a very good speaker. But up close, he is a great communicator, in a way that, in my opinion, Ronald Reagan was not. I have never seen a politician speak so evidently from the heart, about big issues - freedom, most of all.Time out to vomit!
"I’ve sometimes worried about how President Bush can withstand the Washington snake pit and deal with a daily barrage of hate from the ignorant left that, in my opinion, dwarfs in both volume and injustice the abuse directed against any prior President."Oh really. Lieberman loses lead, endorsement, possibly marblesMan of the people Sore Loserman's lead over Democrat Ned Lamont has 'narrowed to a razor-thin margin,' new polls by the American Research Group and Rasmussen showed on Wednesday.
In other Loserman news, the director of the United Auto Workers union says he’s "appalled" that Bush's choice for senator has qualified to get on the ballot as an "independent." Bob Madore says Lieberman is "selfish and is only out for himself" and that’s why his union is backing actual Democrat Ned Lamont in November.

I'm sorry, you shit-head monkey
After days of looking like a complete racist boob on TV and on the internets, Sen. George Allen finally apologizes for 'macaca' comments.
"Senator Allen made a heartfelt apology. He told Sidarth he thought he would see him on the campaign trail, but Sidarth had headed back to U.Va., so we Googled his name, found his number and the senator called him this morning," Wadhams said.
Though wherever Allen goes, political scientist Merle Black said, the video will be hard for Allen to shake because it shows him pointing to Sidarth and singling him out for derision, and because he smiled as he needled Sidarth, seemingly enjoying the moment.

Hmmmmm... why does this sound so familiar?
Smoking mushroom clouds blah blah blah - GOP now trying to use Iran to scare the bejeezus out of the public right before the November elections -
The complaints, expressed privately in recent weeks, surfaced in a Congressional report about Iran released Wednesday. They echo the tensions that divided the administration and the Central Intelligence Agency during the prelude to the war in Iraq.
The criticisms reflect the views of some officials inside the White House and the Pentagon who advocated going to war with Iraq and now are pressing for confronting Iran directly over its nuclear program and ties to terrorism, say officials with knowledge of the debate.

Bush revamps message on terror fight
"We either fight them there, or we fight them in the supermarkets and streets here" is the new gpuke terra talking point, which when a good portion of the shops around here at least are run by Muslims, sounds kind of - ummmm - inflammatory.
Stephen Cimbala, a professor at Penn State University, said Bush and Republican leaders clearly have decided that emphasizing "their leadership in fighting terrorism"* is the best way to maintain congressional GOP majorities.
"And the more issues they can commingle with the war on terror, the better for them," Cimbala said.

Oh please
Here we go again. Libral activist judges love terrists!
Puffy, grublike nanny Karl Rove criticized a federal judge's order for an immediate end to the government's warrantless surveillance program, saying Wednesday such a program might have prevented the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.Gee. Imagine if GameBoy McSockpuppet had actually read the PDB entitled Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the US instead of telling the agent "OK, you covered your ass, now get out," before goin' back out an' cuttin' more brush or playin' "air assault" on his bikey. Jerkoff.
Rove said the government should be free to listen if al-Qaida is calling someone within the US {which nobody is arguing, asshat - Ed.}, adding "Imagine if we could have done that before 9/11. It might have been a different outcome."

Preznit Poopypants now wants it known that he is a man of letters
:: giggle :: Right: "W! I like 'W'!"
Bush has entered a book-reading competition with Karl Rove, his puffy, grublike nanny. White House aides say the president has read 60 books so far this year (while the brainy Rove, to Bush’s competitive delight, has racked up only 50).Gawd.
Bush's critics aren't buying. A man who so regularly mangles the English language and seems to disdain complexity couldn't possibly be so cerebral, they argue. But portraying Bush as a voracious reader is part of an ongoing White House campaign to restore what a senior adviser calls "gravitas" to the Bush persona. He certainly needs something.
The president's favorite reads so far? The Walter the Farting Dog series.

Man of letters....

Republican: Bush, rethugs are idiots
Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC's Scarborough Country:
"'Is Bush an idiot?' has sparked a firestorm. The White House is unhappy. A lot of Republican loyalists are unhappy. But again, the only thing I did was ask publicly what a lot of conservatives have been saying privately since Katrina and the Harriet Miers nomination.
"It goes back to hypocrisy. We Republicans, during impeachment, were so outraged that Democrats would bitch and moan behind the scenes and talk about what a disgrace Bill Clinton was, but then when they went on the House floor and the Senate floor, would fiercely defend him ... We would all scratch our heads and say, 'How could they do that? How could they go out and circle the wagons and say something they didn't believe?'
"And yet here we have a Republican administration and a Republican Congress doing basically the exact same thing, where staying in power is more important than staying true to the values that put you in power in the first place. Again, there are more and more conservatives behind the scenes that are voicing concerns, but most of them are afraid to say anything publicly, because they know if they do they'll be branded as traitors to the cause."

Poll: Americans increasingly hate America, troops
Americans increasingly see the war in Iraq as distinct from the fight against terrorism, and nearly half believe the misadministration has focused too much on Iraq to the exclusion of other threats, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.
The poll found that 51 percent of those surveyed saw no link between the war in Iraq and the broader antiterror effort, a jump of 10 percentage points since June. That increase comes despite the regular insistence of Bush, Cheney and Congressional Republicans that the two are intertwined.

Focusing on Iraq?

Chimpboy to raise moohlah for 'macaca' man
Preznit Farty McStinkypants will be campaigning for Sen. George Allen, who called an American of Indian descent "macaca," a word denoting a type of monkey but used as a racial slur. Allen has said he was just joking about his hair ummmm - calling him a shit-head - uhhhhh, he "just made the word up." He said he didn't mean to demean Sidarth and was sorry if he was offended.
"Senator Allen apologized," said a White House spokes-tool. "And I think it's in everyone's best interest, in this day and age of politics when everyone is trying to improve the tone and discourse {Huh??? - Ed.}, to accept apologies when they're offered."
Actually, he didn't apologize. He just told the media that he was sorry if Mr Sidarth was 'offended.' Mighty white of him.
And what's with the AP, anyway? In one article today they write the Marines are helping "fight the war on terror" rather than being forced to cover Bush's ass in the violent fiasco that is Iraqnam, and in this one, Nedra Pickler - if that really is her name - mentions "that the week obviously has been difficult on the senator and his wife" - poor things! - and if you didn't know what 'macaca' meant, it's "a city in South Africa." Please, 'Nedra,' don't give that wog a second thought. Idiot.
Later: the Allen campaign accuses Dems, liberal media of playing the race card.

Oh. Hmmmm.
Bush to put thousands more troops in harms way as trumped-up war spins out of control.
The number of US troops in Iraq has climbed back to 138,000, driven up in part by the need to control the escalating violence in Baghdad.“We’re not leaving so long as I’m the president,” the AWOL warmonkey said in Monday's news conference. "We're gonna stay the course, whatever that is.”
The increase comes as the US Marine Corps is preparing to order thousands of its troops to active duty in the first involuntary recall since the early days of the war. There is no cap on the total number who may be forced back into service in the coming years.

New poll: clear majority of Americans hate America
Opposition to the war in Iraq has reached a new high, according to a poll released Monday.
Just 35 percent of 1,033 adults polled say they favor the war in Iraq; 61 percent say they oppose it -- the highest opposition noted in any CNN poll since the conflict began more than three years ago.In more bad news for the folksy, straight-shootin' Decider, most Americans don't consider him honest, most don't think he shares their values and most say he "does not inspire confidence."
Bush's tepid ratings do not bode well for his party's odds in the coming congressional elections. Asked which party's candidate they would vote for if the elections were held today, 52 percent of respondents cited the Democratic Party's; 43 percent the GOP's."Quittin' Iraq now would be a disaster!" Bush said yesterday. "Just like not quittin' is!"

Ohhhhh.... kayyyyyyyyy.
BUSH: No, I -- I am aware that extremists and terrorists are doing everything they can to prevent Iraq's democracy from growing stronger. That's what I'm aware of. And therefore we have a plan to help them -- them, the Iraqis -- achieve their objectives.

A senior Downing Street source said that, privately, Mr Blair broadly agrees with John Prescott, who said Mr Bush's record on the issue was 'crap'.
The source said: "We all feel badly let down by Bush. We thought we had persuaded him to take the Israel-Palestine situation seriously, but we were wrong. How can anyone have faith in a man of such low intellect?"

British Intelligence asks the misadministration to stop leaking details about the recent London arrests, over 'fears that it could jeopardize the chances of prosecution and hamper the gathering of evidence.' There's more -
It is understood that British anti-terror police wanted to prolong their observation of the suspects for as long as possible in a bid to gather sufficient evidence. There are now fears among some Scotland Yard officers that they may have acted too hastily when deciding to arrest the 24 suspects earlier this month.Well, well, well: another Bush betrayal of national security for political purposes.

When will Bush admit the obvious about Iraq?
When will monkeys fly out of your ass?
At this point, it should be obvious to all that, despite the countless tactical successes by our troops, we are losing this war and have no strategy to win it.
Supporters of the administration warn that if we leave now, things will get far worse. That may be. But we are not going to remain in Iraq forever, and there is no reason to think the consequences of our departure will be any grimmer three or five or 10 years from now than they would be today. We are not going to stay long enough to succeed in Iraq, and we have already stayed long enough to fail.

Boohoo - is this our president?
Bwaaa! I saw this over at RimJob's Mouthbreathers Anonymous and thought I was going to bust a gut. The column starts off with "bold Bush Doctrine," "stern warnings to Syria" and "magnificent ambition to plant the seeds of liberty and spread freedom throughout the enslaved world" and then it got even better as the author of the piece - some snivelling little Bush asskisser over at NoozeMax - went into paroxysms of fear over some coming apocalypse. Like maybe the gpukes losing the House and Senate.
The president's own visage is scarcely recognizable. Disappeared is the buoyant smile, the twinkling eyes.
His syntax, usually a problem (actually not, since its candid openness was a big plus with most Americans, who speak the same way he does) has been all right. But he now seems unable to articulate anything.
Here is a man who is either grievously sleep-deprived, physically and emotionally drained, or weighted down, in honest despair, by realities that would terrify any mortal.
Is he on the verge of saying to himself, "To hell with it. I did my best. And all anyone wants from me now is my head on a pike. They can take this job and shove it. I'm heading home to Crawford."?
What? Our brave, manly war preznit cut and run? Why do you hate America?

Bush cheerleader wants Rummy's job
"With all respect to Don Rumsfeld, who has done a grueling job for six years, we would benefit from new leadership to work with our military in Iraq," de facto GOP nominee Sore Loserman said on Face the Nation.
The Lamont campaign issued a statement Sunday criticizing Lieberman for trying to "paint himself as courageous for clinging to the failed 'stay the course' policy in Iraq and not listening to the voters of Connecticut on the need to change course."
"His new found 'criticism' of the war won't convince Connecticut voters after so many years of stubbornly rubber-stamping Bush's failed policies," the statement said.

Sore Loserman hires republican
The de facto GOP nominee and rethug tool continued retooling his campaign staff Friday, hiring GOP pollster Neil Newhouse -
From the NY Times:
Despite Mr. Lieberman's position that he will continue to caucus with Democrats if re-elected, all three Republican Congressional candidates in Connecticut have praised [the Bush man-whore] and have not endorsed the party's nominee, Alan Schlesinger. An independent group with Republican ties is raising money for Lieberman, who has been a strong supporter of President Bush on the Iraq war.
And even former repuke House Speaker Newt Gingrich has endorsed the Bushkissing vichycrat's candidacy:
Wake the fuck up, Dems. Unite in telling that sanctimonious asshat to get out of the race now. And if he doesn't, strip him of his committee seats, the pompous little fuck.

"I'm not going to stand for those scare tactics, that's exactly what the Republicans have been doing for the last years. They avoid a real discussion by throwing out a slogan and they scare people....
"It's a disgrace that people are playing to the lowest common denominator of American politics, which is fear."

GOP in deeper caca
'Security moms' leaving the rethugs in droves
Significantly, Pew and other polls in recent days have found little or no advantage for Republicans in the aftermath of last week's foiled terrorist plot in London...
... and even after crazed cyborg Dick "dick" Cheney and other repuke leaders warned that a vote for a Democrat is a vote for annihilation.

GOP in deep caca
What's this?! Trouble in paradise?!
The impression these Republicans had is that support for GOP candidates had nose-dived this summer - in part because of the chaos conveyed by the daily televised scenes of destruction in Iraq and Lebanon and in part because of the dismal reputation built by the Republican Congress.
Said one, "I'm afraid it will be another 1974," the year of the Watergate election, when Democrats swept everything in sight.

Cracks appear in NASCAR voters' republican loyalty; in between T-shirts and belts.
Almost one-third of NASCAR fans now intend to vote for Democrats in congressional races this fall, similar to the number planning to vote Republican, according to Zogby. According to political analysts, this has occurred despite no significant increase in Democratic campaigning aimed at this group.

Why does the American Civil Liberties Union hate America?
Heh: the Bushies get a big UFIA from one of those pesky activist judges. Who actually believe the Constitution is more than a goddamn piece of paper.
A federal judge has ruled that the federal government's illegal warrantless wiretapping program is unconstitutional and ordered it ended immediately.
US. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor in Detroit became the first judge to strike down the National Security Agency's program, which she says violates the rights to free speech and privacy.
"By holding that even the president is not above the law, the court has done its duty," said Ann Beeson, the ACLU's associate legal director and the lead attorney for the plaintiffs.

With the insurgency at its' highest level since the US invasion began, nobody, not even the White House, thinks Iraq is going well anymore. With the possible exception of Joe Lieberman.
Developments in Iraq could hardly be worse...- Glenn Greenwald.

“Everybody in the administration is being quite circumspect,” the expert said, “but you can sense their own concern that this is drifting away from democracy.”

Keepin' us safer
If by "us" you mean "the misadministration."
Liquid explosive detectors have been available for years - but the Bush WH has been too fucking cheap and uncaring to do anything about it.
Charles Slepian, founder of a transportation security firm in New York, said that technology for detecting explosives in carry-on bags is well understood and readily available, but the US Department of Homeland Security is reluctant to spend the large sums needed to deploy it at hundreds of airports.
"Now they're embarrassed because they have to say that we have nothing in place," said Slepian. "Shame on us. We've had the science for years."
The TSA has not outfitted airports with the devices, in part, because officials have to prioritize where they spend limited dollars, according to Frank Cilluffo, former special assistant to President Bush for homeland security.

Egomaniacal quisling turncoat set to blow election, Bush
Ned Lamont is gaining support -- but the Whiny-ass Titty-baby still has an edge, thanks to rethuglicans.
The Quinnipiac poll released Thursday has Lieberman leading Lamont among registered voters 49 percent to 38 percent. Republican Alan Schlesinger gets support from 4 percent. Lieberman's advantage in the general election comes from broad support among unaffiliated and Republican voters. Some Senate Republicans, meanwhile, are throwing their support behind faux-Democrat Lieberman instead of actual Republican-republican Schlesinger.Pompous fuckwad. Somebody should really take him into a dark corner and beat the living bejesus out of him. So to speak.

Well, that's OK then
"I wasn't calling him a monkey -- I was calling him a shithead!"
Nearly a week later, Senator/fuckwit George Allen comes up with the latest 'real' 'explanation.' Sounds like a load of caca to me -
According to two Republicans who heard the word used, "macaca" was a mash-up of "Mohawk," referring to Sidarth's distinctive hair {???? - Ed.}, and "caca," Spanish slang for excrement, or "shit."
Said one Republican close to the campaign: "In other words, he was a shit-head, an annoyance." Allen, according to Republicans, said it was the first word that came to his mind when he spied Sidarth at the weekend's event.
What a great explanation if it were true! "The first thing I thought of when I saw him was 'shit'!" Jebus.
"So, 'welcome to America, shithead,' is a defense? In what world?" - Brad Levinson.
Macaca gear here. 30% of profits will be donated to the campaign of Sen. Allen's opponent, Democratic challenger Jim Webb.

The smell of fear
"This is going to play big."
Turns out that those of us who thought something smelled funny about the timing and all - peace had just broken out in Connecticut, for instance - were getting a whiff of more than just discarded aftershave.
It's outrageous enough that the arrest in London last week of 24 terror suspects was premature and dovetailed not with the accumulation of evidence against them, but with the White House's need to call the voters who dumped Joe Lieberman "Defeatocrats" (House Majority Leader John Boehner) and coddlers of "al-Qaida types" (Dick Cheney).
But the outrage is magnified by the fact that the Bush administration, even as it stoked national paranoia over a plot to detonate carryon liquids aboard transatlantic flights, was, according to the Associated Press, quietly defunding the development of technology to detect those very bombs...
- Robert Koehler.
"None of the alleged terrorists had made a bomb. None had bought a plane ticket. Many did not even have passports, which given the efficiency of the UK Passport Agency would mean they couldn't be a plane bomber for quite some time. ... In all of this, the one thing of which I am certain is that the timing is deeply political. This is more propaganda than plot."
- Craig Murray.

Boob in the bubble
Hiding behind the presidency, in the super-secret batcave -
When it comes to Iraq in particular, Bush has no interest in engaging in genuine dialogue with people who disagree with him -- even though polls suggest those people now represent a large majority of the American public.- the Froomster.
He has no interest in actually arguing the merits of his approach, or substantively defending against the increasingly focused critique by congressional Democrats. Rather, he describes his approach in platitudes, and uses inflated rhetoric to mock the made-up arguments of imaginary opponents.

Paula Jones case may force Cheney, Rove to testify
Bwwwwaahahahahahaha!
Attorney Joseph Cotchett said he will ask a federal court to order Cheney, his ex-chief of staff Lewis "Scooter" Libby and Rove to testify in depositions about their role in disclosing her classified status.
The civil lawsuit accuses them and others of conspiring to publicly identify Plame as a CIA agent to punish her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, for writing in an op-ed piece that the Bush administration twisted intelligence about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction in the run-up to the Iraq war.
Court documents show that Cheney has hired Emmet Flood, a lawyer from Clinton's impeachment defense team, to represent him in the Plame case.

Bigot goes on damage control
Some of my best friends are monkeys Indians, says embattled racist.
In deep (ma)caca: Sen. George Allen on Tuesday sought to contain the political damage from remarks he made to a Fairfax County man that dredged up charges of racial insensitivity -- allegations that have dogged him for years as high-school student, college student, busboy, Chippendales performer, Virginia delegate, governor, senator and now presidential hopeful.
In a statement, Allen said that "Macaca" was a play on "mohawk," because of Dem aide SR Sidarth's hairstyle - which it in no way resembles. Nice try, asshole.
Update: Sen. Allen's sister: "My brother is a violent, bigoted enema-bag who enjoys making others suffer."

Dems getting exceedingly pissed off at 'man of principle'
Democrats, finding half a sack between them, are starting to speak out against selfish, egotistical turncoat.
If he continues to alienate his colleagues, Loserman - who lost the fucking primary - could be stripped of his seniority within the Democratic caucus should he defeat Ned Lamont in the general election this November, according to some senior Democratic aides.
“Lieberman’s tone and message has shocked a lot of people,” said a senior aide who has discussed the issue with other Senate Dems. “He’s way off message for us and right in line with the White House.”
“At this point Lieberman cannot expect to just keep his seniority,” said the aide. “He can’t run against a Democrat and expect to waltz back to the caucus with the same seniority as before."
Nice start, but they've got to do better than that.
“No one is going to say anything that is directly related to trying to hurt Joe Lieberman,” said Senator Harry Reid of Chickenshit, Nevada.
Fucking pussies.

Did Cheney go too far?
Do cyborgs shoot acquaintances in the face?
By insinuating that the sizeable majority of American voters who oppose the war in Iraq are aiding and abetting the enemy, Vice President Cheney on Wednesday may have crossed the line that separates legitimate political discourse from hysteria.
Cheney's comments came in a highly unusual conference call with reporters, part of an extensively orchestrated and largely successful Republican effort to spin the obviously anti-Bush message of Ned Lamont's victory over presidential enabler Joe Lieberman in the Connecticut Democratic Senate primary.
"To hear Dick Cheney and company using illogical, over-the-top, fear-mongering rhetoric conflating Ned Lamont's victory with the war on terror is as deeply offensive as it is jaw-droppingly outrageous.
"It would help if the MSM reacted to the GOP drivel by treating it with the contempt it deserves instead of dutifully reporting it as if it contained even an ounce of logic or sanity," said Arianna Huffington.
The Trenton Times wrote: "Leave it to Dick Cheney to turn the results of a fair and honest election into some kind of sinister scenario...
"Actually, comments such as the above are more of a sad reflection on the state of the Bush-Cheney administration, which just doesn't get it. Americans are fed up with the war in Iraq, from the false pretense for going to war to the tragically inept handling of the effort after the fall of Baghdad. Meantime, terrorist groups continue to prowl and plot, as evidenced by last week's arrest of 24 terror suspects in London, while this country spends enormous resources and sheds the blood of so many brave Americans in a war that has no end in sight."
The Berkshire (Mass.) Eagle wrote: "Six years into the Bush-Cheney era, no one should be surprised at the levels the vice president can reduce himself to in his unending efforts to smear his political foes. Yet, he continually comes up with new approaches. . . .
"The shameful smears of patriotic American voters by Mr. Cheney and White House apologists like Mr. Lieberman can't disguise how utterly they and their ilk have failed America. Their unspoken fear is that America is finally on to them."

White House declines to back republican in CT
No, the other republican.
Bush vague on Conn. Senate race, day of the week, whether he wants Coco-Puffs or Froot Loops for breckie.
"Wait, wait, wait," a reporter persisted. "I realize he supports democracy, but I'm wondering. Does he actually support his own party's candidate?"
During a combative back and forth that sometimes had the two talking over one another, Snow indicated that he didn't know for sure whether the president supports Lieberman or his Republican rival, but that "there are a whole host of reasons," that Bush may not want to back Schlesinger.
"I think you know the situation in Connecticut," Snow concluded.
Uh-huh. It was Kenny Mehlman's turn to waffle next -
MEHLMAN: There's nothing more important to me, as you know, than electing Republicans. It's what I spend my life doing. It's my passion. The way I do it...
GREGORY: So yes?
MEHLMAN: The way I do it is to work with our leadership in the states. And what my leadership in the state has said to me is you ought to stay out of this one. You ought to focus on the House races and focus on the Governor's race.
GREGORY: Why endorse candidates all over the country but not do it here?
MEHLMAN: Again, I do it based on the leadership in the state.
GREGORY: Do you want Senator Lieberman to win, to expose the Democratic Party as divided and weak?
MEHLMAN: Oooooh, look! Squirrels!

The Bush misadministration: hoping for fear
From Paul Krugman:
[M]any Americans now understand the extent to which Mr. Bush abused the trust the nation placed in him after 9/11. Americans no longer believe that he is someone who will keep them safe, as many did even in 2004; the pathetic response to Hurricane Katrina and the disaster in Iraq have seen to that.Unfortunately, as some wag put it, "you can never underestimate the stupidity of the general public."
All Mr. Bush and his party can do at this point is demonize their opposition. And my guess is that the public won't go for it, that Americans are fed up with leadership that has nothing to hope for but fear itself.

Pre-election terrorizing
Playing politics with terrorism: an LA Times editorial calls shenanigans on Dick 'dick' Cheney and RNC headcheese Ken 'tightcheeks' Mehlman -
The republicans' nasty election-year politics are abhorent and unhelpful, "especially when the stakes in terms of national security and civil liberties are so high. You might even be tempted to call it a pre 9/11 mind-set."

Lieberman - idiot, fucking tool
Lieberman has long preached the politics of civility and calm rhetoric, but he appears to be ready to set that aside to defeat Lamont.
[T]he opening stage of his campaign has delivered a decidedly mixed message.Whiny McKissyface also set aside his long-standing policy of kissing major monkey nuts, and pretended he was mad at Chimpy McStupidstein:
Lieberman's first post-primary television ad promises an era of "unity and purpose." His first post-primary campaign appearance featured a slashing attack on Lamont in which he claimed that success by his rival in November would be "taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England."
"People . . . and not just the Democrats are angry at the direction of this country -- so am I," he said last Tuesday night. "People are fed up with the petty partisanship and angry vitriol in Washington. Let me tell you, I have been there, and I am fed up, too.""And Ned Lamont winning is a tremendous victory by the people who wanted to blow up these planes in England!"

Lamont: jebus christ...
Ned Lamont says he was surprised by Schmoe Egoman and short-circuiting cyborg Dick Cheney's claims that his victory could embolden terrorists -
"My God, here we have a terrorist threat against hearth and home and the very first thing that comes out of their mind is how can we turn this to partisan advantage. I find that offensive," Lamont said in an interview Sunday. He also said Lieberman "sounded an awful lot" like the gpuke talking points coming out of Cheney's piehole:
"It surprised me," he said. "It seemed almost orchestrated. It's sort of demeaning to the people of Connecticut. I thought the senator and the vice president were both wrong to use that attack (strategy) on the voters of Connecticut."

"Awwww - gee, sorry Ned! Didn't see ya there..."

... than those pussy-ass libtards!
Oh really??
The most frightening thing about the foiled plot to use liquid explosives to blow up airplanes over the Atlantic is that both the government and the aviation industry have been aware of the liquid bomb threat for years but have done little to prepare for it.I know we posted this yesterday, but it bears repeating - especially when the GOP insists on playing the tougher on terrism card every chance they get.
And John at AmericaBlog reminds us that we did get hit after 9/11 - "So next time Bush/Cheney claim we haven't been hit again, ask them what happened to the anthrax killer. Then ask them where Osama is."

Catapulting the propaganda
Bushies asked Brits to time terror plotters' arrests to divert attention from Lamont's huuuuuuuge victory over pro-war, pro-Bush Schmoe Lieberman.
John at C'n'L asks does "anyone doubt the timing of this story now?"
NBC News has learned that U.S. and British authorities had a significant disagreement over when to move in on the suspects in the alleged plot to bring down trans-Atlantic airliners bound for the United States.
A senior British official knowledgeable about the case said British police were planning to continue to run surveillance for at least another week to try to obtain more evidence, while American officials pressured them to arrest the suspects sooner. The official spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case.
In contrast to previous reports, the official suggested an attack was not imminent, saying the suspects had not yet purchased any airline tickets. In fact, some did not even have passports.

Drought unearths treasure trove of ancient monuments
Last night they were described as the best for at least adecade with a host of buried sites revealed from the air.
The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales made major discoveries using light aircraft to survey the Welsh landscape.
"It has been absolutely astounding. Discoveries have been made across Wales visible both as cropmarks in ripening crops and scorched grassland," said a spokesman. Finds include two early Neolithic causewayed enclosures, Roman forts, a lost medieval church, a bronze age ritual enclosure, lines of Roman roads and scores of prehistoric hillforts across the entire country.
Alas, the article has no pictures.

Bush aides gleeful over UK terror plot
Foresee greater ease in getting away with shitting all over Constitution, people's rights
Woohoo! Thousands of people could've been killed! It's almost like hitting the trifecta!
Taking the White House’s lead, Republicans throughout the country used the arrests of terror suspects in Britain to go on the offensive against Democrats for the second day in a row. They accused Democrats of failing to understand the nature of the terrorist threat facing the nation.
“Yesterday, Bush said we are safer today than we were before 9/11,” Sen. Harry Reid said. “But if one looks around the world today, he could not be further from the truth.’’

The administration also was slow to start testing a new liquid explosives detector that the Japanese government provided to the United States earlier this year.
The British plot to blow up as many as 10 American airlines on trans-Atlantic flights was to involve liquid explosives.

Cheney accused of politicizing terrorism, being a complete and utter dickhead
"I don't take anything he says seriously anymore," said Senator Hillary Clinton in response to Cheney's comments that terrorists 'would be emboldened' by the results of the CT primary. "I think that he has been a very counterproductive even destructive force in our country and I am very disheartened by the failure of leadership from the president and vice president."
"They've run this play one too many times," Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said. "The American people simply do not recognize any validity in what they're saying."
"We should all be uniting and be together at this point," said NY Sen. Chuck Schumer, the head of the Senate Democrats' campaign committee. "But if they're going to throw the political bombs on this issue, we are going to answer them loud and clear, and we believe we have the political high ground."

Hello, Dali.
Bush and Cheney's reign of [t]error
Dayyum -
This is stunningly ignorant logic, as well as annoyingly consistent with the Bush administration's fundamentalist myth that Iraq had ties to al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden - a claim by now well-discounted, most notably by a presidential commission...
For Cheney - and other Republicans like GOP National Chairman Ken Mehlman - to suggest that those Americans are encouraging terrorism is reprehensible.
Cheney's comments came out a day before British intelligence officials announced they had thwarted a major terrorist attack. Surely Cheney was aware of the plot and the work to thwart it, and was no doubt aware of the timing of yesterday's announcement.
To exploit a very real terror threat that could have led to major casualties, and to even indirectly implicate Americans who were exercising their democratic right by going to the polls and making a choice borders on the criminal, to say nothing of the insane.
Has Cheney completely lost it?
The latest terror scare is upsetting enough... But the real terror is this: While our Vacationer-in-Chief and his vice president shut down dissent, and discourage questions about the way our government has directed our intelligence and military resources toward a single target in Iraq, we are no closer to understanding or dismantling the threat of al Qaeda.
The immoral and ridiculous claims coming out of the Bush administration's reign of error could ultimately be responsible for the kind of casualties that al Qaeda can only dream of.

Crisis in the UK!
A day after Bush was briefed on the "imminent attacks," he stayed on vacation and went bike riding. Aides said there were no plans for him to cut his vacation short.
Several senior Republican strategists were uneasy with the possibility that images of [Gropie McGameboy]'s activities in the past week, including bicycle rides in the 100-degree Texas heat, could be used to accuse him of being too casual about the potential terrorist threat.
Instead, Mr. Bush stuck to his schedule; after Thursday’s metal plant tour, he attended a fund-raiser.

Crisis in the MidEast!
"We are working hard now to bridge differences between the United States position and some of the positions of our allies," WH spokes-tool Tony Snow told reporters in Texas, where he has joined Bunnypants on vacation.
"I dare say the president's very actively engaged in this," Snowjob said. "He may go for a bike ride in the morning, but he's spending a lot of time, morning, noon and night working these issues."
LOL.
Fun fact: Stupie McSenseless has dared his staffers to join his "100 degree club"- which entails running 3 miles in triple-digit heat. What stupid fucking goober.

Lamont: don't fuck with me
The winner of the CT Democratic primary slams pompous asshat and short-circuited cyborg.
Joe Lieberman, who on Wednesday decried 'partisan attacks' and 'partisan politics,' accused Ned Lamont on Thursday of not understanding the threat terrorists pose to homeland security.
Lieberman, desperately trying to keep the job his constituency voted him OUT of, continued to attack Lamont's qualifications yesterday through spokesman Dan Gerstein.
"For Ned Lamont to say what's happening in Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terror shows how ill prepared he is to be a US senator," Gerstein said. "Iraq, right now, is ground zero in terms of terrorist activity."
“Wow,” Mr. Lamont said, after asking a reporter to read the Loserman’s remark about him. “That comment sounds an awful lot like Vice President Cheney’s comment on Wednesday. Both of them believe our invasion of Iraq has a lot to do with 9/11. That’s a false premise.”
"I just think that this Bush administration confuses a comprehensive attack on the terrorists with the invasion of Iraq," Ned Lamont said. "I think the invasion of Iraq was a terrible distraction."
Lamont said the invasion diverted attention and resources from the hunt for Osama bin Laden, port security and other critical areas of national security.
"It hasn't made us safer," Lamont said. "I'm happy to have that debate."
"Both the RNC, Dick Cheney and Joe Lieberman seem to be reading off the same playbook right now," Lamont added. "But I don't think it's going to stick."

9/11 happened on your watch, assholes
Gpukes, who have controlled all branches of government for the past six years, accused Dems on Thursday of doing too little in The War Against Terra.
"Like these Twinkies, freedom is never free, and we must never be complacent in defending it," Speaker Denny Hastert said from the House snack bar.
"We must be on alert so that our nation does not suffer another attack like 9/11," Senate Majority Leader/douchebag Bill Frist intoned. "9/11, 9/11, 9/11..."
Speaking of doing too little, John at AmericaBlog reports that Bush knew at the start of his misadministration that terrorists had tried to use explosive liquids to blow up planes - so what the hell have they been doing all this time?

GOP, aware of the UK terror plot, gleefully timed the release of the news for political purposes
US knew of plot 'for days'
Bush, Homeland Security, lawmakers, RNC were briefed
From Agence France-Presse, via AmericaBlog:
Weighed down by the unpopular war in Iraq, Bush and his aides have tried to shift the national political debate from that conflict to the broader and more popular global war on terrorism ahead of November 7 congressional elections....
His remarks came a day after the White House orchestrated an exceptionally aggressive campaign to tar opposition Democrats as weak on terrorism, knowing what Democrats didn't: News of the plot could soon break.
Bush aides on Thursday fought the notion that they had exploited their knowledge of the coming British raid to hit Democrats, saying the trigger had been the defeat of Joe Lieberman of Connecticut.
Snow said Bush first learned in detail about the plot on Friday, and received two detailed briefings on it on Saturday and Sunday, as well as had two conversations about it with British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
But a senior White House official said that the British government had not launched its raid until well after Cheney held a highly unusual conference call with reporters to attack the Democrats as weak against terrorism....
"Weeks before September 11th, this is going to play big," said another White House official, who also spoke on condition of not being named, adding that some Democratic candidates won't "look as appealing" under the circumstances.
"Weeks before September 11th, this is going to play big," said a White House official.

Can't get no satisfaction
Erstwhile Bush backers may abandon republicans -
An Associated Press-Ipsos poll conducted this week found the president's approval rating has dropped to 33 percent, matching his low in May. His handling of nearly every issue, from Iraq to foreign policy contributed to the president's decline around the nation, even in the Republican-friendly South. In a new Zogby poll conducted Aug. 9-10, 2006, an "overwhelming majority of likely-voting Democrats nationwide said they are glad Joe Lieberman was walloped by anti-war challenger Ned Lamont in the primary on Tuesday."
More sobering for the GOP are the number of voters who backed Bush in 2004 who are ready to vote Democratic in the fall's congressional elections. Fewer than 100 days before the Nov. 7 election, the AP-Ipsos poll suggested the midterms are clearly turning into a national referendum on Bush.
Dems nationwide think their party is stronger for Lamont’s victory, and want their candidates to tout anti-war credentials. And in a CNN poll, two-thirds of Americans hate freedom.
The Connecticut election highlights what Democrats across the country said they want to hear from their candidates – a resolute opposition to the war in Iraq. More than three-quarters of Democrats (78%) said they want candidates who opposes the conflict.

Another Tony snowjob
"But at least the lead that Mr. Lamont had went from 13 points to six to four on election day. That indicates that even in a fairly liberal state like Connecticut, where this is the one issue, where you had a well-financed candidate who had more money than the incumbent, that you still had a 50-50 split more or less within the Democratic Party on this issue."Huh... really...
Election results, 2004: Bush 51% Kerry 48% = Bush "mandate"
Election results, 2006: Lamont 51.79% Leiberman 48.2% = a 50/50 race.
"President George W. Bush won the greatest number of popular votes of any presidential candidate in history," marveled Vice President Dick Cheney while introducing his boss. "President Bush ran forthrightly on a clear agenda for this nation's future, and the nation responded by giving him a mandate."

An aggressive posture in terms of our national security
From today's press gaggle with Tony Snow:
Snowjob: In terms of Gropie McGameboy's awareness of what has been going on in England, he has been kept fully briefed in between naps and playing "air assault" on his bicycle.
SNOW: That is correct,
Q: To what extent does this take away the President's attention from the Middle East problem?
SNOW: What atten - I mean, it doesn't. He's been, obviously, actively engaged in the Middle East, and at the same time this has been going on. It is in the nature of a President's responsibility in this kind of world that you have to be able to keep your eye on a number of challenges at the same time, like how much brush to cut in a certain area, is the kitchen running low on red lollipops, if the bike trail needs to be graded...
Q: No plans to go back to Washington because of this?
SNOW:
Q: But you all are convinced that this is a very serious threat and lives were at risk?
SNOW: It was a very serious threat.
Q: How concerned was the President upon hearing all this in his briefing?
SNOW: I don't know. I mean, "concerned" is -- when you hear about things like this, you know there is a necessity to respond and to respond in the appropriate ways. Otherwise you look like a real fucking dork, like during Katrina. So that's -- again, his approach is we've got to deal with this, and that is what US officials and our allies have been doing.

Political order upended as republicans praise repub Lieberman
Here we go again -
Republicans had words of praise for [the Bush-kissing toady] whose longtime support of the US misadministration was seen as causing his US Senate primary election defeat.Yeah - it's called "republican."
RNC chairman Ken Mehlman hailed Lieberman as a "different kind of politician, and a different kind of Democrat."
"Like the proud history of so many Democrats before him, Joe Lieberman believed in a strong national defense. And for that, he was purged from his Party. It is a sobering moment," Mehlman lied during a speech in Ohio.Integrity.

Democrats abandon Bush leg-humper, back people's choice Lamont
Even as the party's top Democrats gave Sen. Ego McLoserman the kiss-off, the self-righteous quisling would not give up, saying his conscience demanded that he run as an independent in November.
Lieberman's conscience also demanded he fire his campaign manager and spokesman, and ask for the resignations of his campaign staff. It did not, however, demand he stay out of the race to avoid handing the seat over to an actual rebooblican.
Actual rebooblicans who were quick to whip out the September 11 fear card:
Puppy-killing cyborg Dick Cheney emerged from his vacation bunker long enough to say the race "showed there is a significant segment of the Democratic Party" that wants to return to "a pre-9/11 mind-set."
"It's an unfortunate development, I think, from the standpoint of the Democratic Party to see a man like Lieberman pushed aside because of his willingness to support an aggressive posture in terms of our national security strategy," Cheney lied, supporting an aggressive security strategy from his secret fishing hole in Wyoming.Yeah. You have no idea. We're extremely pissed off.
"When we see the Democratic Party reject one of its own - a man they selected to be their vice presidential nominee just a few short years ago - that would seem to say a lot about the state the party's in today," he said.
"Aggressive posture in terms of our national security strategy" my ass -
See - Lieberman loses and the terrists hit England!
WH spokes-tool Tony Snow: 'a vote for Lamont is a vote for another 9/11' -
"There seems to be two approaches, and in the Connecticut race, one of the approaches is ignore the difficulties and walk away. Now, when the United States walked away, in the opinion of the Osama bin Laden in 1991, {1991, huh? - Ed.} bin Laden drew from that the conclusion that Americans were weak and wouldn’t stay the course and that led to September 11th."Gee, Tone, you mean like walking away from the Aug 01 presidental daily brief entitled Bin Laden Determined to Strike Inside the US? Or when Smirky McStupid told the CIA briefer: "All right. You've covered your ass, now" and then went fishing? Or like when your misadministration disbanded the CIA unit that was supposed to be tracking Bin Laden? Or when Dear Leader finished reading 'My Pet Goat' and then ran and hid while America was under attack? Or when you guys just sat by while North Korea developed nuclear weapons?

Dems: not just soft on terrism, but actual terrists
Well, not "good" "Dems" like Joe Lieberman, but the kooky jihadists of the Taliban wing of the Democratic Party -
"[T]he beginning of a leftwing jihad."- David Keene of the American Consertive Union (seen at RimJob's Home for Chronic Masturbators).
Taliban Democrats are willing to "kill" one of their own, if he does not conform to the narrow and rigid agenda of the party's kook fringe. Our already-poisoned political dialogue has not only been made more toxic, but contagious. Taliban Democrats have effectively issued a political "fatwah" that warns all Democrats not to deviate from their narrow line, or else face the end of their careers through a political jihad.- frothing psychopathic douchehole Cal Thomas.

Message to the gpuke-enabling vichycrat whores
You spread your legs, and now you're getting plowed
As one of his final failed efforts to retain the Democratic nomination for Senate, Lieberman claimed that a Lamont victory would send the wrong message to voters; i.e, that if Lieberman wasn't re-elected, the Democrats would be considered weak on security.
But the reality is that the majority of Democratic primary voters in Connecticut knew that to elect Joe Lieberman was to be weak on security. Because the policies Lieberman champions of the Bush Administration are merely the fig leaves that cover up unprecedented failures that in their bumbling implementation and multi-year bankrupting of America weaken our nation in a way no terrorists could.
If the Capitol Hill Dems don't back Ned Lamont, they will have the fight of their lives on the their hands. But it won't be with the Republicans, with whom the DLC is so chummy.
It will be with Democratic voters who are ready to throw out the elitist Democrats who value their cozy jobs more than they do the will of the people and the security of our nation.

'Cause you guys did such a heckuva job during Hurricane Katrina
Dear Bushies,
We understand that in case of a National Security incident where the state may have been incapacitated by an event, the President may need to control the National Guard. However, he is granted this authority under the "insurrection act."Drop dead,
The possibility of the federal government pre-empting the authority of the state or governor in natural and manmade disasters is opposed by the nation's governors. We are responsible for the safety and welfare of our citizens and are in the best position to coordinate all resources to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters. When federal aid is needed it should be coordinated by the governors.
The nation's governors feel very strongly about protecting our constitutional responsibility to take care of our citizens, and do not want that responsibility shifted to federal officials, as defined by a "serious" emergency.

Lieberman's mistaken idea of who's polarizing
With the enormous amount of damage George W. Bush has done to our country, Lieberman's supposed ability to "work with" the Republicans is not a sign of wonderful bipartisanship that gets good things done - his bipartisanship amounts to his agreeing with a lot of the Repbulican positions, and not being very forceful when he doesn't agree. And in terms of the war, he is not a bipartisan supporter, he's a shill for Bush, and never once held him accountable for the cherry picking of intelligence that was used to rev up the American people to go fight this war...- Chris Durang, the HuffPo.
[M]aybe Ned Lamont can go to the Senate and actually DO something that Democratic voters want their Senator to do.

Revenge of the irate moderates

When Mr. Lieberman told the Washington Post, “I haven’t changed. Events around me have changed,” he actually put his finger on his political problem. His constituents felt that when the White House led the country into a disastrous international crisis and started subverting the nation’s basic traditions, Joe Lieberman should have changed enough to take a lead in fighting back.

Sore Loserman
"This is like watching your old uncle soil himself!"
Flipping off Dem voters and the whole Democratic Party, the pompous, self-righteous quisling - after saying he wants to unite, not divide - announced that he will run as an "independent." He should be thrown off every Senate committee he's on.
Seconds after saying he'd congratulated Ned Lamont, Joe was taking a vicious swipe at him. But he just could not admit Lamont had won.
"The old politics of partisan polarization won today," Joe said.
The people in the crowd cheered with more energy than this campaign has generated in weeks. But some weren't so thrilled.
Joe told the crowd to e-mail him ideas for making Connecticut a better place. This led a woman to shout, "Can we have peace?"
And you think the voters were divided before on Joe's support of the war?
From his concession speech:
"I will continue to offer Connecticut a different path forward.
"People are fed up with the petty partisanship and angry bickering in Washington. It is continually blocking progress on major problems and wasting America's greatness.
"I'll never hesitate to work with members of the other party if it helps to achieve solutions to build better life for people of Connecticut. I will always do what I believe is right for my state and country regardless of what the political consequences may be.
"Tomorrow is a brand new day. [I'll run a] new campaign to unite people of Connecticut, GOP, Democrat and independent, and move forward together and solve our most serious problems together."
Joe Lieberman: It's all about me.
Unbelievable.

Bush, at 60, still a #ucking retard
Reuters reporter Steve 'kissass' Holland joins Stupie McSweatycheeks for a "brutal" bike ride at the presidental pig farm. In 100-degree heat.
"What I would give to be 16 again!" Bush yelled out at one point as he mashed the pedals of his"Air assault"??! Gawd! LOLtricycleTrek bicycle through a wooded area.
In fact, Bush does not ride quietly, constantly shouting out in his Texas twang the names of trees and geographic features and yelling at himself to pedal faster.
"Air assault!" he yelled as he started one of two major climbs...
To be 16 again? It doesn't sound like he's made it to the level of an 8 year-old. No word if he stretched his arms out like wings and yelled "Nyraaaarrrwooow! Powpowpowpowpow!"- dedalus at Blah3.
