Douchebag of liberty on hotseat again

Bob Novak, the columnist whose unmasking of a CIA operative prompted an investigation of who had given her name to him and others, expressed disappointment yesterday that two other reporters faced going to jail for not cooperating in the case.

But Mr. Novak, in an appearance on "Inside Politics" on CNN and in a subsequent telephone interview, once again refused to answer questions about what contact, if any, he had had with the federal prosecutor conducting the investigation or about what extent he might have cooperated in the case.

Columnist Al Hunt, a colleague of Nokavula's, said the treasonous scumbag could probably shed some light on why Ms. Miller and Mr. Cooper were facing jail on contempt charges, while he, apparently, was not.

"It does beg the question why Matt and Judy, and not Bob," Mr. Hunt said. "It's just so confusing to citizens and people in our business. If Bob could provide some context, I think it would be helpful."

In a related story, Time Inc. said Thursday it would comply with a court order to hand over the notes of White House correspondent Matt Cooper.

Bush's Iraq-terrorism link faces skeptical US public
"The only way our enemies can succeed is if we forget the lessons of September 11." - Bunnypants, 6/28/05. Or if you ignore your National Security advisor's reports entitled Bin Laden determined to strike within the US, then invade a country that wasn't even responsible. Asshat.

"Clearly a political decision has been taken in the White House that the only way that they can regain momentum is by going back to the sort of primal source of their support, September 11," said David Rothkopf, a terrorism expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

"I think it is just unvarnished demagoguery," he said.

In an editorial, the New York Times said "we had hoped he would resist the temptation to raise the bloody flag of 9/11 over and over again to justify a war in a country that had nothing whatsoever to do with the terrorist attacks."

"The president, who is going to be in office for another three and a half years, cannot continue to obsess about self-justification and the need to color Iraq with the memory of 9/11. The nation does not want it and cannot afford it."

Terrorist haven? Since when?
"Bush's speech could widen his credibility gap."

"More than two years ago, Bush argued that Saddam Hussein's control over Iraq could make the nation a haven for terrorists. But in his nationally televised speech, Bush asserted that the tumult that has followed Hussein's removal created the same threat. That argument drew instant scorn from some Democrats, who argued that Bush was defending the continued military operations on the basis of a threat that did not exist before the invasion." - Ron Brownstein, in the Los Angeles Times.

Peter Canellos in the Boston Globe: "In a bold redefinition of a war that began primarily as an attempt to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction, President Bush yesterday said Iraq is where the United States will make its stand against terrorists from around the world who flowed into the country after the fall of Saddam Hussein. There was no discussion, however, of how those fighters slipped through borders that US forces failed to secure, or any other flaws in postwar planning."

"Bush was greeted with stony, untelegenic silence by the troops the White House had gathered at Ft. Bragg to serve as his audience. There was only one outburst of applause, apparently provoked by a member of Bush's own advance team." - Dan Froomkin, the WaComPo.

"NBC's Kelly O'Donnell, reporting from Fort Bragg, said afterward that the applause appeared to have been 'triggered by members of the president's advance team' and that once they began clapping, the soldiers joined in."

The Washington Post: "Mr. Bush didn't explain how a war meant to remove a tyrant believed to wield weapons of mass destruction turned into a fight against Muslim militants, a transformation caused in part by his administration's many errors since Saddam Hussein's defeat more than two years ago.

The Los Angeles Times: "President Bush's pep talk to the nation Tuesday night was a major disappointment. He again rewrote history by lumping together the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and the need for war in Iraq, when, in fact, Saddam Hussein's Iraq had no connection to Al Qaeda. Bush spoke of 'difficult and dangerous' work in Iraq that produces 'images of violence and bloodshed,' but he glossed over the reality of how bad the situation is.

The Baltimore Sun: "Mr. Bush addressed the nation last night in an attempt to rally support for his policy on Iraq, and instead it became disturbingly clear that the events of the past two years have barely made an impression on him.

US press says Bush wasted opportunity to be honest

Leading US newspapers said Wednesday Bush failed to speak honestly about Iraq and should have not linked the US-led fight there to September 11.

"Sadly, Mr. Bush wasted his opportunity last night, giving a speech that only answered questions no one was asking," said the New York Times, referring to Bush's mantra that a stable and democratic Iraq would be worth US sacrifces.

"We did not expect Mr. Bush would apologize for the misinformation that helped lead us into this war, or for the catastrophic mistakes his team made in running the military operation.

"But we had hoped he would resist the temptation to raise the bloody flag of 9/11 over and over again to justify a war in a country that had nothing whatsoever to do with the terrorist attacks," said the daily.

Which is a hoot, considering the lengths it went to in the past to help the misadministration "catapult the propaganda."

The president, "once again missed an opportunity to fully level with Americans," said The Washington Post.

"The president's evasion of the hardest facts about Iraq is coupled with a reluctance to candidly describe the likely price of success," it added.

Yeah. So now the WaComPo too starts to pull its thumb out of its ass? Thanks for nothing, whores.

Bush criticized for linking 9/11 and Iraq
Congressional Democrats said Preznit WarMonkey's repeated attempts last night to link the war in Iraq to the September 11 terrorist attacks rang hollow and did not constitute the plan to win the war that they said Bush needed to deliver.

The Snivelling Ninny mentioned the attacks five times during the 28-minute address Tuesday night, when he was supposed to be talking about solving the roiling, deadly fiasco in Iraq.

"The president's frequent references to the terrorist attacks of September 11 show the weakness of his arguments," House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said. "He is willing to exploit the sacred ground of 9/11, knowing that there is no connection between 9/11 and the war in Iraq."

"The president's numerous references to September 11 did not provide a way forward in Iraq," Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid said. "They only served to remind the American people that our most dangerous enemy, namely Osama bin Laden, is still on the loose and al-Qaida remains capable of doing this nation great harm nearly four years after it attacked America."

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean slammed Bush for failing "to show the same courage our troops and their families show every day."

"Facing an historic opportunity for leadership, George Bush turned to the darkness of divisiveness, attempting to garner support for his failed policies by pandering to fear, rather than inspiring us with a plan for hope," Dean said.

"I think the president was giving them same old, same old," Independent pollster John Zogby said.

War Preznit's clear strategery to end the Iraq war
Continue to politicize September 11thBloodshed in Iraq is 'worth it,' says war deserter:

"We fight today because terrorists want to attack our country and kill our citizens, and Iraq is where they are making their stand.* So we will fight them there, we will fight them across the world and we will stay in the fight until the fight is won."
Following the party line, disgraced republican towelboy John McCain defended the Squinting Chimp, telling Larry King that those spreading violence in Iraq "are the same guys who would be in New York if we don't win in Iraq."

House Speaker Denny "yes, Mr DeLay" Hastert chimed in: "If there is any doubt why we are in Iraq, one must only remember the events of September 11, when the terrorists attacked our nation. We took the war to the terrorists, rather than waiting for them to attack again. It was the right thing to do."

*Note: the CIA said a week or so ago that though there were no ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda before the war, Iraq is now the number one training ground for Al Qaeda worldwide. Yep. Iraq is now "a central front in the war on terror" because Bush, in invading and occupying the country, opened it wide open for America-hating terrorists.

The party's over for betrayed Republican
Disillusioned soul leaves Greedy Old Prick party, may embrace French, God-hating gay lifestyle.
/heh

As of today, after 25 years, I am no longer a Republican.

It was a party of honesty and accountability. It was a party of tolerance, and practicality and honor. It was a party that faced facts and dealt with reality, and that crafted common-sense solutions to problems based on the facts as they were, not as we wished them to be, or even worse, as we made them up. It was a party that told the truth, even when the truth came hard. And now, it is none of those things.

While it has compiled this record of failure and deception, the party which I'm leaving today has spent its time, energy and political capital trying to save Terri Schiavo, battling the threat of single-sex unions, fighting medical marijuana and physician-assisted suicide, manufacturing political crises over presidential nominees, and selling privatized Social Security to an America that isn't buying. We fiddle while Rome burns.

Resolvitude
WH spokestool Scott McClellan explains what we can all look forward to tonight during Preznit WarMonkey's bold, clear Iraqi strategy speech:

Q: Scott, are there new details in the strategy for success? Is there a new direction, or is the President basically summing up what he has said before? Is there a new direction, though, or not?

MR. McCLELLAN: You're going to hear from the President tomorrow night. I think we have a clear strategy for success. He's going to be talking in a very specific way about what that strategy is. It's an opportunity for the American people to hear about the strategy. We've all seen on the TV screens the images of bloodshed and violence. They are disturbing. The President is disturbed by those images. The terrorists have inflicted great suffering. There have been tremendous sacrifices. But the cause for which we are in Iraq is an important one, and there is great progress being made on the ground.

The terrorists' only alternative is to spread violence and chaos and destruction because they know that when a free Iraq takes hold, a democratic Iraq, that it will be a major defeat for their ambitions. You've heard terrorists talk publicly about the importance of trying to stop the progress that is being made in Iraq.

Q: Isn't the message really more patience? Isn't that really what the President is going to be requesting, something he's --

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, I think if you go back to September 11th -- remember, on September 11th the threats of the 21st century were brought to our shores. We saw in a very clear way the threats that we face on that day.

And the President said shortly after the attacks of September 11th that this is a long struggle that we're going to be in, that this is a different kind of war, one which we have never seen before. And we do face a determined and ruthless enemy, an enemy that has no regard for innocent human life. That's the nature of the enemy that we're up against. That's the nature of the enemy that the President will be talking about in his remarks tomorrow night.

And the President made it clear after September 11th that some will want us to grow complacent and forget about, or put the attacks off as a distant memory. But it does require patience and resolve to see this struggle through to the end. We have no option but to defeat the terrorists, and the terrorists will be defeated.

So, ummmmmm, I guess the answer is NO, then?

September 11th September 11th September 11th.
God bless America.

US headed for disaster when efforts in Iraq collapse
Makin' progress?

We may now be only weeks away from a complete collapse of the Iraqi army and the withdrawal of British troops from Iraq in the face of overwhelming public pressure on Tony Blair.

Since President WarMonkey’s declaration that "major combat operations are over," three weeks or so after the assault on Baghdad, there has been one disingenuous statement after another from the White House, the State Department and the Pentagon.

Successive rationales for the war - finding Saddam’s cache of weapons of mass destruction, heading off an imminent threat to Israel and even to our own country, capturing Saddam and ending his bloody dictatorial reign, establishing democracy in Iraq - have been trotted out, and found to be seriously flawed or even outright wrong.

Many US and Iraqi troops no longer know what they are fighting for.

Why do the US and Iraqi troops hate America? They're enabling the terrists!

Most Americans now believe that the Bush misadministration "intentionally misled" the public in going to war in Iraq.

Public insecure on Preznit Privilege's plan to destroy Social Security
Bunnypants strikes out with SS overhaul.

After six months of presidential speeches, town meetings and maneuvering, Republicans are coming to grips with an unpleasant reality: The central pillars of President Stupid's Social Security proposal have crumbled on Capitol Hill.

Mandate, huh?

"He was reading his press clippings from foreign policy, where he could get away with just about everything, and thought he could make that leap to domestic policy," said Michael Genovese, director of the Institute for Leadership Studies at Loyola Marymount University.

Other analysts point to key White House assumptions that proved unfounded — that a campaign-style push by the president could produce a wave of public support for personal accounts, that Democrats could be drawn into working with the White House and that Republicans would rally behind Bush despite the political risks of revamping Social Security.

Republicans are split over policy and strategy. Democrats remain united in opposition. And polls show that the public is even less supportive of Bush's ideas than before he launched his push.

    Yeah!
9/11 widow and activist Kristen Breitweiser reams Rove a new cornchute:

Now Karl, a question for you, since you seem to be the nation's self-styled sensei with regard to 9/11: Is Usama Bin Laden still important? Lately, your coterie of friends seems to be giving out mixed messages. Recall that in the early days, Bin Laden was wanted “dead or alive.” Then when Bin Laden slipped through your fingertips in Tora Bora, you downgraded his importance. We were told that Bin Laden was a "desperate man on the run,” and a person that President Bush was not "too worried about". Yet, whenever I saw Bin Laden's videos, he looked much too comfortable to actually be a man on the run. He looked tan, rested, and calm. He certainly didn't look the way I wanted the murderer of almost 3,000 innocent people to look: unkempt, panicked, and cowering in a corner.

More to the point, Karl when you say, “Conservatives saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and prepared for war,” what exactly did you do to prepare for your war? Did your preparations include: sound intelligence to warrant your actions; a reasonable entry and exit strategy coupled with a coherent plan to carry out that strategy; the proper training and equipment for the troops you were sending in to fight your war? Did you follow the advice of experts such as General Shinseki who correctly advised you about the troop levels needed to actually succeed in Iraq? No, you didn't.

Finally Karl, please “understand” that the reason we have not suffered a repeat attack on our homeland is because Bin Laden no longer needs to attack us. Those of us with a pure and comprehensive “understanding of 9/11” know that Bin Laden committed the 9/11 attacks so he could increase recruitment for al Qaeda and increase worldwide hatred of America. That didn't happen. Because after 9/11, the world united with Americans and al Qaeda's recruitment levels never increased.

It was only after your invasion of Iraq, that Bin Laden's goals were met. Because of your war in Iraq two things happened that helped Bin Laden and the terrorists: al Qaeda recruitment soared and the United States is now alienated from and hated by the rest of the world. In effect, what Bin Laden could not achieve by murdering my husband and 3,000 others on 9/11, you handed to him on a silver platter with your invasion of Iraq - a country that had nothing to do with 9/11.

Which leads me to my final questions for you Karl: What are your motives when it comes to 9/11 and are you really sure that you understand 9/11?
