As bodies continue to pile up in the streets, Bush and Cheney remain upbeat, see success in Iraq.

Well, it's sure hard to top this opening sentence:

On the third anniversary of a war that they once expected to be over by now, President Bush and senior officials argued Sunday that their strategy was working despite escalating violence in Iraq, even as a former Iraqi prime minister once favored by the White House declared that a civil war had already started.

VP Dick "dick" Cheney, interviewed from his secure redoubt/human hunting preserve on Fantasy Island, was asked about his statement three years ago that "we will be greeted as liberators" and his assertion 10 months ago that the insurgency was in its "last throes."

He insisted that in both cases his facts were right, but that the news media had "created a different perception" by focusing on stuff like car bombs and explosions, the stretches of ruined cities, the continued attacks, the lack of water or electricity, the lack of jobs or security, the lack of WMDs, the roadside bombs and IEDs, the tens of thousands of people killed, maimed, tortured or wounded...

"My statements reflect reality," he told Face the Nation. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to blow your goddamned head off if you're still here in 60 seconds."
