‘Waterloo’ comment re: GOP’s Waterloo Waterloo for Frum

David Frum forced out of conservaturd septic tank after 11 years.

After criticizing republican party leaders for their total opposition to President Obama's health-care plans, former Bush speechwriter David Frum was given the heave-ho from the conservative American Enterprise Institute echo chamber.

Former Republican policy advisor Bruce Bartlett, fired by the rightwing National Center for Policy Analysis for writing a book critical of Bunnypants, responded:

“[Frum] asked if I had noticed any comments by American Enterprise ‘scholars’ on the subject of health care reform. I said no and he said that was because they had been ordered not to speak to the media because they agreed with too much of what Obama was trying to do.

“It saddened me to hear this. I have always hoped that my experience was unique. But now I see that I was just the first to suffer from a closing of the conservative mind. Rigid conformity is being enforced, no dissent is allowed, and the conservative brain will slowly shrivel into dementia if it hasn't already.”
It has. And from the conservive Front Page Mag:
"The Right's response to David Frum's perceived heresies has inflicted serious intellectual and political damage on the conservative movement.”
”Intellectual” damage? I don’t think that was ever a problem.

I've come to believe that to the Conservatives, the intelligent/rational approach to the world has ALWAYS only been a TACTIC, a weapon in their arsenal, NOT an underlying principle. When derision, name-calling, shouting, crying, aggrieved-innocent-posturing, etc. don't work, then try resorting to the 'intellectual' approach. Sort of a shotgun approach - - somethings bound to hit the target. Also, it sometimes helps them politically (especially with the casual observer or the MSM) to use that to (seemingly) neutralize other rational viewpoints - - so for instance you hear the MSM treating the Repukes HCR responses as if they were a rational, intellectual attempt at a solution, rather than the dilatory/scuttling tactic that they obviously were.

I'm always reminded of the old cliche about the drunk continually looking for his lost wallet at night under a street-lamp because the light is better there... in a very narrow sense it's rational/correct (ie; the light IS better there) but in the larger sense it's absurd/irrational because it's almost undoubtedly somewhere out of sight in the dark.
