I don't watch much tv, but when I do

... I mute every effing, earsplitting commercial!! Well, Congress has finally passed the CALM, or Commercials Are Loud, Muthafucker act, that will require all advertisers to tone down their volume -- "so it's no higher than that of the program you're watching." About time. See what you guys can do when you're not being dicks?

AMEN! About fucking time! This will do a whole helluva a lot more good than worrying about an exposed breast or 'swears'.

Even as a 12-yr-old boy in '65, I consciously noticed as cultural progress 3 small improvements in tv:

* voluntary and enforced measures making louder commercials illegal

* an audience that had matured enough to kill 'big-time tv wrestling'

* an audience that had matured enough to kill 'divorce court'

(sigh...)

Corruption and degeneracy are like the slime oozing out of your tv set. Any ol' crack and here it comes again....

Oh, by the way, back in my childhood commercials and cross-promotions totalled 15% of program time (9 min/hr). (If you don't believe me, go rent _Peter Gunn_ on netflix (recommended in any case.) Yep, 26 1/2 minutes a show....)

The dreaded 'station break' was the long commercial interruption (2 minutes). TV is now 30% spam, and 5 minutes of continuous commercials are common (except on the 50% of cable tv (which you pay for) which is now 'infomercials' using 100% of the time for their despicable filth.)

Even 'public' tv now has more than 9 min. of spam per hour. With 'has-been singer week' now a fortnight 4 times a year. I stopped giving to public broadcasting in '85, after Reagan gutted funding and 'underwriting announcements' were corrupted into commercials.

I don't recall voting for any of those 'public airwaves' changes. Just another example of who exactly congress represents (hint: number one ain't you; you ain't even number two.)

Anyway, I never ever watch commerials either. We'd go a long way to solving the nation's problems if no one did. But that's a pipe-dream, of course; anyone dumb enough to keep these slimy spammers in business or vote for palin is too dumb to care about what rot commercials put into their brains....
