US gaffe over Romanian flag hits Bucharest front pages
Bush foreign policy winning hearts and minds.

Romanians were surprised when they opened their newspapers and found a photograph of their President being received with full honours at the Pentagon in Washington -- with a Russian flag instead of the Romanian one.

The picture in several newspapers showed President Ion Iliescu at table with his luncheon host US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on Monday. Plainly visible on the table in front of Iliescu's plate are two pennants -- the stars and stripes and the flag of the Russian Federation.

When asked about this gaffe, Bush said: "Well at least it was only the Romulans. It would have got real ugly if we offensed the Klingons." (thanks to macdaddy357)
